March 2002

For some 14 years, from my office in the Hospital, I looked out daily, even hourly, at the sea. I really do miss this now that I am retired. I found it always fascinating. In all its moods it is beautiful to behold. Never was it more breathtaking than on those warm Summer evenings, with the Sun disappearing like a great ball of fire into its far-off depths, and leaving an avenue of silvery waves in its wake. Another time, in its angry mood, great walls of spray, some 8 ft. high would break over the Promenade. No mere man could ever still such restlessness, but only the Lord Himself, of whom His astonished disciples declared “ Even the winds and the waves obey Him” ( Matthew Chapter 8 verse 27) There was a time, I guess, when I would not have appreciated such things in the same way. How privileged we are that our eyes have been opened to such wonders. Brought out of darkness into His most marvellous light. ( 1 Peter chapter 2 verse 9) For every child of God, we can look forward with glad anticipation to that day, when the earth will be filled with the Glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. ( Isaiah chapter 11 verse 9) Hallelujah !!
