A welcome warm to all of you Who gather here tonight, May you have fun within these walls And every moment bright. There’s lots of carols to be sung So sing with heart and voice, A merry tune will cheer you up And make you all rejoice. A little later you will find A further teat in store , A cake, a drink to fill your tum You won’t find that a bore. A few Y.P. Have worked quite hard And worked without a fuss, To make this hour a real success With joy for all of us. Yet for a moment let us pause And think of those away, Those faces that we love so well Not here for us today. The Air Force, Army , Navy , Mine Have claimed them for a while, But we can pray that all of them Still wear that victory smile. We won’t forget our lads and girls Whose memory we embrace, But we’ll commend each one to God Who’ll keep them by His grace. We’ll pray that soon all strife will cease That peace may reign once more So all of them can come back home To be just as before. Did you know that every week We gather here like this ? To sing and pray and hear God’s word Too good it is to miss. Lots of us have learned to love The saviour of mankind, And we have put our trust in Him The Lord so good and kind. He longs for every one of you He’s waiting here tonight, He knows your heart with all it’s faults Come now He’ll put you right. Soon we’ll sing about His birth, A baby born to die, Who bore the cross for all the world That we might never die. Now carry on ! Enjoy yourselves And please do not be shy, Let’s be as friendly as we can Come on now ! Let’s try. Perhaps you’ll come again sometime And mat it be quite soon, With one big heart to praise our God And sing in Christian tune. J.C. Lowe. (The spirit of the nation was very low at Christmas 1942. The war with Germany and the Axis powers was going against us, the situation was very bleak. But Colin, being a Christian, full of hope could compose and recite this poem with full confidence in his Heavenly Father.) N.B. Y.P. Means a Young Peoples Fellowship.
