The Unhandled Exception
Thought for the month
Submitted
Over the last weekend I finished a computer program for work. A basic utility that connects to the Internet. The beta, (testing), phase came and with a smile I thought to myself, “I created that,” and then it stopped before I had told it what to do when something goes wrong, an ‘unhandled exception’ (crash) occurred and that was it. Hours of work down the drain because I had not saved my work. Quite basic stuff that at the time I thought necessary. “Nothings going to happen, I’m too good at this.” The cold hard truth is that I was not that good, something did happen and I had to start again. It could have all been different though. Had I have saved my work, the spanner in the works would have not caught me out. Sure, I would have to find out what went wrong, and fix it, but I could have carried on in the knowledge that my little program was safe. During the ‘crash’ I went out to get some fresh air, which got me thinking about the Christian life. When something in life goes wrong, potentially it can break you, but a Christian has backup, somewhere to go to in Jesus who will tell us what to do, who saved us in a different way from our own sins, and who will carry (handle) us throughout. When life throws you a curve God has the point you can return to, and if you have been saved, when Gods great program is finished you will face the ultimate creator, ‘error free.’ ‘And anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved’.
