“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men- the testimony given in its proper time. And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle- I am telling the truth, I am not lying- and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles” 1 Timothy chapter 2 verse 5-7. Paul's message to us here is a three fold description of the Gospel, a mediator verse 5; a ransom verse 6; a preacher verse 7; The United Nations seeks to act as a mediator. They seek to intervene between two parties to resolve a conflict. Mankind is in conflict with God. Jesus came to resolve that conflict and bring peace. The condition for us is that we repent. A ransom verse 6; is a payment to free the enslaved. Jesus came to “give his life a ransom for many” (Mark chapter 10 verse 41). Mankind can be free of guilt, judgement and hell. A preacher verse 7; is someone who heralds, proclaims, speaks publicly (Romans chapter 10 verses 14-15) John Wesley wished for a 1,00 tongues to praise his Saviour. May a thousand of us long to praise and preach about our mediator and ransom !
