These Boots Were Made for Walking
“ Ready, Steady, Go!”. With these magic words, Mervyn started our annual Deva toddle in aid of Barnardos, a charity we have been happy to support for a number of years. 21 toddlers and their mums or grandmas began their walk of 12 laps round the Deva Car Park on the morning of 18th June. The Lord blessed us with fine, dry weather for the event, and all who took part finished their 12 laps in record time, though a bit weary from their efforts - (was it my imagination, or did the mums look distinctly jaded compared with their offspring??) Most mums had found sponsors for their toddle and we hope to collect a good amount of money when all the sponsor forms come in. Only the wind tried to disrupt the proceedings slightly by blowing tablecloths, paper plates and napkins, as the children sat down for our Jubilee theme party afterwards. With refreshments for adults as well, we all had a good time, including some visitors from the church, and from the children’s families. Mervyn gave out a Toddle Certificate to every child who had taken part and we sent them away happy, though tired, with their chocolate buttons, balloons and crowns. We are so thankful for all the help received from friends and church members, including flags for our Jubilee theme, fetching and carrying chairs etc. And baking cakes- a BIG thank you from everyone in Toddlers. We thank the Lord for the success of the whole event and note that we have never yet been rained off in all the years we have been taking part. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” (Psalm 19 verse 1)
