1. ADORATION: 5 minutes. Approaching God in adoration, praise and worship. Recognising His Lordship and Sovereignty. Use a hymn/songbook and quietly sing or read from it. Psalm 95:2 ‘Let us come before Him with... joyful songs of praise’. 2. CONFESSION: 2 minutes. Reflection upon our failures in thought, word and deed. Confessing specific sin to God and claiming His forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 ‘If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness’. 3. THANKSGIVING: 3 minutes. Thanking God for the things of everyday life... Food, clothing, health, home, family etc. Also, thanksgiving for all the spiritual blessings that are ours in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 1:3 ‘Let us give thanks... He has blessed us by giving us every spiritual blessing in the heavenly world’ 4. SUPPLICATION: 5 minutes. Bringing to God your own specific needs. Guidance, help and the Holy Spirit’s power. Reflecting on the need to demonstrate the character of Christ (Galatians 5:22) and discovering and using spiritual gifts for the good of the church. Prayer for holiness and service. 5. BIBLE READING: 10 minutes. Aim to cover 3 chapters. Practice daily to read the whole Bible through each year. Possibly 1 chapter of Genesis, 1 chapter of Psalms, 1 chapter of Matthew, to receive an even ‘diet’, or straight through from Genesis to Revelation. Use a pen to mark off issues of interest or coloured pencil to underline various themes. Emphasis on reading not studying.
